My husband Steve is a firefighter and has been working A LOT lately. When he works a lot that means he can be gone anywhere from 2 to 4 days at a time with only a day or two off in between shifts. During the school year when I’m working, in some ways, it doesn’t feel so bad because I’m busy and the days can go quickly. However, when I’m in summer mode, the days can be LONG. In my pre-mama days I couldn’t get enough of long summer days because it meant working out, laying out, eating out and general relaxation. Now, with Reesey Girl, a long summer day consists of keeping an 18 month old busy for 16 hours a day. There’s only so much we can do around the house and her current park activities are limited to the swing, so that means one thing…we go shopping 🙂 A mama’s got to do what a mama’s got to do.
Plus, it’s summer, which means I need a new collection of cute breezy tops to withstand the heat waves, the summer BBQs and sport in the vacation Instagram pics.
Usually when I set out to shop with the intention of spending money I can’t find anything I like. Not the case the other day! Soooo much cute stuff out there to choose from! I’ve had these Nordstrom’s gift cards burning a whole in wallet since like January but haven’t seen anything worth spending them on, until the other day. My girlfriend Amy T was wearing this super cute flowy tank a few weeks back and it looked so good on her because she’s tall and lean with amazingly strong arms. Everything looks good on her and we have very similar taste when it comes to clothes. But as a shorty, things that look good on her don’t necessarily look good on me, despite how hard I try. BUT, I had to try this Free People tank top she was wearing. Free People clothes are pretty distinct. You can spot their style a mile away. I have a few of their dresses and a bunch on their tops. Their designs can be turned either perfectly country, hippie or sexy. I love it. So versatile. Anyways, I went to Free People’s website and found the top. Figured they’d have it a their store at The Village at Corte Madera. No dice. Popped into Nordstrom and asked if they carried it and they did…in even better colors than they showed online. AND I had my gift cards. AND they’re only $38 which, as far as Free People and Nordstrom’s goes, isn’t terribly expensive. So they were basically free. So I obviously had to get two…and maybe some other Free People stuff that was even cheaper (and not even on sale!) and a Fourth of July that I’ll be wearing the next couple of Wednesdays.
Free People tops tend to run big. I’m usually a Small in clothes but because this top is pretty loose I went XS, so size down. The top is longer in the front and shorter in the back. The back actually sits just at or above your waist line depending on how tall you are. It basically goes with anything. Obviously super cute with jeans or shorts but the day I tried it on I was wearing a black maxi skirt and it was soooo cute with that, especially for a night out. Shows off the back and booty 🙂
So this is what I’m wearing this Wednesday…
